The speedy senior is one of 19 athletes who will represent Banks at the state championships in Eugene.

Nick Boguski and Mykah Rosa, each of whom has taken turns this season, also will head to Eugene as alternates.

Shurts holds the school record at 169-4, and Banks coach Rob Frank said he "would put money" on the big man topping 170 next week in Eugene.

"He's come quite a long way," Banks coach Frank said. "He's been working on it a lot, and he went from throwing about 38, 40 feet last year to about 47 this year."

"He's been having some trouble with his hip and his leg a little bit," Banks coach Rob Frank said, "so he hadn't been jumping in practice as much as we normally do."
